For more than 2,000 years people in many different parts of the world have been forced into slavery. In this course we will explore a selection of topics including slavery in the Ancient World and in Medieval Europe, the Transatlantic Slave Trade to the Americas and the working and living conditions in Victorian Britain. But we will also deal with the current situation concerning worldwide human trafficking in the 21st century and the exploitation of especially women and children (child prostitution, etc.) since this has become a growing phenomenon.
